History:
The Focke-Wulf Ta 152H-1 was one of the Luftwaffe’s most advanced piston-engine fighters developed during the closing stages of World War II. Designed by Kurt Tank, the Ta 152 was an evolution of the formidable Fw 190 series, specifically engineered to operate at high altitudes and intercept Allied bombers and reconnaissance aircraft. The H-series, and especially the H-1 variant, was tailored for extreme altitude with extended wings and a pressurised cockpit.
Powered by the Junkers Jumo 213E liquid-cooled engine, the Ta 152H-1 could achieve speeds over 750 km/h (466 mph) at high altitude, making it one of the fastest piston-engine fighters of the war. It was armed with a 30mm MK 108 cannon and two 20mm MG 151/20s, giving it considerable firepower.
Only a limited number of Ta 152H-1s saw operational service, primarily with Stab/JG 301, and their combat impact was restricted by their late introduction. Nevertheless, the aircraft left a lasting legacy, showcasing the peak of German propeller-driven fighter development. Zoukei-Mura’s 1/48 scale kit captures the Ta 152H-1’s sleek lines and intricate internals, making it a standout piece for modellers interested in late-war Luftwaffe aviation.
