Zvezda Plastic Model Kit
Black Hussars of Frederick the Great (1/72)
This 1/72 scale set from Zvezda depicts the famed Black Hussars of Frederick the Great, one of the most recognisable light cavalry units of the 18th century. The box contains nineteen mounted figures, each cast in crisp detail and spread across nine different poses that give plenty of variety for dioramas, regiment displays, or tabletop scenes. A banner carrier is included, adding a focal point for command or formation layouts.
The figures are sized at roughly 2.4cm in height and sit well alongside other 1/72 historical ranges. Clothing, tack and equipment are neatly sculpted, capturing the character of Prussian light cavalry without being overworked. The set provides a straightforward way to build a dynamic cavalry group for Seven Years’ War collections or general 18th-century settings.

History
The Black Hussars, or Husarenregiment, served as fast-moving light cavalry under Frederick the Great during the 18th century. Known for their striking black uniforms and skull-and-bones insignia, they were used for reconnaissance, screening, raiding and rapid strikes throughout the Seven Years’ War and related campaigns. Their bold reputation and distinctive appearance made them one of the most iconic units of the Prussian cavalry arm.
As highly mobile troops, they played a key role in Frederick’s preference for manoeuvre and aggressive tactics. Their influence extended beyond Prussia, as many European armies adopted similar hussar formations in the decades that followed.
