History:
The MT-LB was developed in the mid-1960s to serve as a lightweight armoured transporter capable of moving personnel, ammunition, and equipment across varied terrain. Initially manufactured at the Kharkiv Tractor Plant before production expanded to other facilities, the vehicle proved exceptionally adaptable. Its low weight, wide tracks, and amphibious capabilities made it effective in snow, mud, and marshlands. Beyond its transport role, the MT-LB became a multi-purpose platform for artillery towing, communications systems, reconnaissance variants, and numerous weapons configurations. More than 55,000 units have been produced, and its long service life across dozens of countries has cemented its reputation as one of the most practical tracked vehicles of the Cold War era.
