The Lynx is a successful multi-role helicopter that was built by Westland Helicopters and made its first flight in 1971. Due to its versatility, high reliability and performance it is used by the armed forces of 14 countries. As it has been continuously upgraded and adapted to new requirements, the Lynx is still needed as a ship-borne helicopter and can be used both for SAR and as a submarine chaser. Naval flying unit 3 at Nordholz currently has in service 22 of the Mk 88 version. Some of these helicopters are stationed on board frigates that are currently patrolling off Somalia where they give active protection against piracy.A particularly attractive livery was given to one Lynx for the jubilee event in 2007.
