History:
The Republic P-47D Thunderbolt was one of the most powerful and heavily armed fighters of World War II. Equipped with a Pratt & Whitney R-2800 engine, it was known for its ruggedness, speed, and devastating ground-attack capability. Colonel Francis “Gabby” Gabreski, a leading U.S. ace with 28 confirmed victories, flew the P-47D in combat over Europe with the 56th Fighter Group. His aircraft became famous not only for his aerial victories but also for its role in escorting bombers deep into enemy territory. The Thunderbolt’s durability allowed it to absorb heavy damage and still return home, making it a favourite among pilots. This Academy kit captures the legendary aircraft of Gabreski, paying tribute to both the pilot and one of the most formidable fighters of WWII.
