History:
The Messerschmitt Bf 109K-4 was the ultimate development of the long-serving Bf 109 series, introduced in late 1944. It featured a streamlined design, retractable tailwheel, improved cockpit layout, and heavier armament including a 30mm MK 108 cannon firing through the propeller hub. Powered by the Daimler-Benz DB 605D engine, the K-4 offered superior speed and climb rate, making it a formidable opponent even against advanced Allied fighters such as the P-51 Mustang and Spitfire Mk.XIV. Despite its performance, the K-4 entered service too late and in too few numbers to significantly alter the air war’s outcome. Academy’s 1/48 kit brings this historically important late-war fighter to life with accuracy and detail.
