History
The Leclerc entered French Army service in 1992 as one of the most modern and advanced main battle tanks of its time. Its features included modular composite armour, an autoloading 120mm smoothbore gun, advanced optics, and a highly sophisticated fire control system, allowing it to engage targets with exceptional speed and accuracy. By the late 1990s, the Leclerc had become the backbone of France’s armoured forces, also seeing export service with the United Arab Emirates. Designed to operate alongside NATO allies, the Leclerc provided superior mobility and firepower, while maintaining protection against both kinetic and chemical energy threats. It continues to serve as France’s principal battle tank, with upgrades ensuring its viability well into the 21st century.
