Airfix Plastic Model Kit
English Electric Lightning F2A/F6 (1/48)
When it comes to significant British aircraft of the post Second World War era, few had the impact of the English Electric Lightning. Designed as a high-performance interceptor, it was introduced to defend Britain’s V-Bomber airfields against the threat of Soviet bomber attack, and quickly earned a reputation for raw speed and dramatic presence.
The ultimate evolution of the type was the Lightning F.6, which refined the already formidable performance of earlier variants. Increased range, improved handling, and the reintroduction of internal cannon armament made it a more versatile and capable aircraft. Armed with a pair of Red Top air-to-air missiles alongside its guns, the F.6 was widely regarded by RAF pilots as more than just a point-defence interceptor.
