History
The SEPECAT Jaguar began life as a joint Anglo French project intended to produce an advanced jet trainer for both nations. As development progressed, the aircraft’s performance and versatility saw it evolve into a highly capable strike platform, with additional variants created to fulfil training and conversion roles.
The two seat Jaguar T.2 and later T.4 were developed to train pilots transitioning onto the operational single seat aircraft. Retaining the Jaguar’s speed and handling characteristics, these versions allowed effective instruction while maintaining the aircraft’s distinctive appearance.
During the Cold War, the Jaguar became a mainstay of Royal Air Force service, valued for its reliability and low level strike capability. The two seat variants gained particular admiration for their balanced proportions and flowing lines, and remain widely regarded as some of the most attractive aircraft ever to serve with the RAF.
