Dragon Models Plastic Model Kit
Focke-Wulf Fw190D-9 “Langnasen-Dora” (1/48)
This 1/48 scale aircraft kit from Dragon Models represents the Focke-Wulf Fw190D-9, commonly known as the “Langnasen-Dora” due to its distinctive extended nose. Developed as a high-performance evolution of the Fw 190 series, the D-9 variant was designed to improve speed and altitude performance using a liquid-cooled inline engine. As part of the 1/48 aircraft range, it offers a well-balanced scale for both detail and display.
The model captures the defining features of the D-9, including its longer nose section, streamlined fuselage, and refined tail configuration. These changes gave the aircraft a noticeably different appearance compared to earlier radial-engined variants. The kit provides a solid base for detailed finishing, allowing modellers to apply painting and weathering techniques that reflect the operational conditions of late-war German aircraft.
The Fw190D-9 was used primarily as a fighter and interceptor, intended to counter Allied aircraft at higher altitudes. Its improved performance made it one of the more capable late-war piston-engine fighters. As a modelling subject, it offers a clear contrast to earlier Fw190 variants, highlighting the technological developments made during the final phase of the war.

The Focke-Wulf Fw190D-9 was introduced in 1944 as Germany sought to improve its fighter capabilities against increasingly advanced Allied aircraft. By replacing the radial engine with a more powerful inline engine, the aircraft achieved better high-altitude performance and speed. Although introduced relatively late in the conflict, it proved to be a capable and effective fighter in the hands of experienced pilots. The “Dora” remains one of the most recognisable late-war German aircraft, representing the final development stage of the Fw190 series before the end of WWII.
