History
The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk was one of the most widely used American fighters of the Second World War. Entering service in 1941, the P-40E was equipped with a more powerful Allison V-1710-39 engine and an armament of six .50 calibre machine guns. Known for its ruggedness and ability to operate in harsh conditions, the Warhawk saw action across multiple theatres, including North Africa, the Pacific, China, and the Eastern Front under Lend-Lease. Famously flown by the American Volunteer Group, the “Flying Tigers,” the P-40 earned a reputation as a reliable and durable fighter, even if it was often outperformed by more modern enemy aircraft. Its contribution to the Allied war effort was significant, providing critical air support during some of the toughest campaigns of WWII. The P-40 remains an enduring symbol of determination and adaptability in wartime aviation history.
