History

The Mitsubishi J2M Raiden was designed specifically as a fast-climbing interceptor to defend the Japanese home islands against high-altitude bomber attacks. Entering service in 1944, the J2M3 variant featured improved armament and performance, making it one of Japan’s most capable defensive fighters.

Although produced in limited numbers due to wartime constraints, the Raiden earned respect for its speed and firepower and remains a distinctive example of late-war Japanese aircraft design.
