History
The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was one of the largest and heaviest single-engine fighters ever built. Entering combat in 1943, it quickly earned a reputation for durability, firepower, and survivability. Pilots valued its ability to absorb damage and still bring them home.
While initially designed as a high-altitude escort fighter, the P-47D became especially famous for its ground-attack role, destroying enemy armour, transport, and infrastructure across Europe and the Pacific. By the end of the war, the Thunderbolt had become a symbol of Allied air power and tactical air support.
