History:
The USS Hancock (CV-19) was laid down in 1943 and entered service in 1944 as part of the Essex class of aircraft carriers. These ships formed the backbone of the United States Navy’s carrier forces during the latter stages of World War II.
Hancock participated in numerous operations in the Pacific Theatre, supporting air strikes and fleet actions against Japanese forces. Like other Essex-class carriers, it combined strong offensive capability with durability, contributing significantly to Allied naval success during the war.
