ICM Plastic Model Kit
Luftwaffe Pilot School (Hs 123A Training Biplane & 3 Figures) (1/32)
This 1/32 scale Luftwaffe Pilot School set from ICM combines the Hs 123A training biplane with three Luftwaffe cadet figures, recreating an early-war flight training scene. Designed around the German “A/B School” system, the kit represents the formative stage where future pilots learned basic flying skills before being assigned to fighter, bomber, or reconnaissance units.
The Hs 123A features accurate geometry based on the real aircraft, with a detailed cockpit and fuselage, while the three figures include carefully sculpted uniform elements for added realism. With over 226 parts in total, this set offers both an aircraft build and a small vignette straight from the box.

History
Luftwaffe pilot training began at dedicated flying schools, where cadets typically accumulated between 100 and 150 flight hours. After initial instruction with an instructor, students spent many hours practising take-offs, landings, and aerial manoeuvres, while instructors assessed their abilities to determine future roles.
Although light trainers formed the backbone of instruction, training units also operated combat aircraft, including the Hs 123 biplane. Originally introduced in 1936 as a close-support aircraft, it was armed with two synchronised machine guns and capable of carrying up to 450kg of bombs. Its simple design, reliability, and solid flight characteristics made it suitable for both operational duties and advanced training.
The Hs 123 served with frontline air groups and training units alike, remaining in service almost until the end of the war. This kit captures that dual-purpose role, offering a snapshot of the early stages of Luftwaffe pilot development, before cadets moved on to more specialised aircraft.
