History:
The Battle of the Marne in September 1914 halted Germany’s rapid advance into France and marked the collapse of the Schlieffen Plan, which had aimed for a quick victory on the Western Front. Initially, German forces had advanced deep into French territory, but logistical strains and extended lines created vulnerabilities. The Allies, reinforced by British troops, mounted a decisive counterattack along the Marne River. Exploiting gaps in the German formations, French and British forces pushed forward, forcing the German army to retreat. This dramatic reversal became known as the “Miracle on the Marne” and signalled the beginning of a prolonged and gruelling conflict marked by trench warfare. For historians and modellers alike, the event symbolises both the resilience of the Allied armies and the end of Germany’s hopes for a rapid conclusion to the war.
