Miniart Plastic Model Kit
RSO/01 Early Production W/ 7.5cm Pak 40 & Crew (1/35)
This 1/35 scale plastic model kit from Miniart represents the early production Raupenschlepper Ost (RSO/01) fitted with the 7.5cm Pak 40 anti tank gun, complete with crew figures. Designed as a response to the harsh conditions of the Eastern Front, the RSO combined mechanical simplicity with excellent cross country mobility.
Mounting the Pak 40 directly onto the chassis created a highly pragmatic, if improvised, self propelled anti tank platform. While offering minimal protection, the combination provided German units with mobile firepower capable of dealing with Allied armour under difficult terrain conditions.

History
The Raupenschlepper Ost was developed in 1942 specifically for service on the Eastern Front, where wheeled vehicles struggled in mud, snow and poor road conditions. Its simple tracked suspension, enclosed cab and reliable drivetrain made it well suited to towing artillery and supplies.
As the war progressed and anti tank requirements increased, some RSOs were adapted to carry the 7.5cm Pak 40. This field driven solution sacrificed crew protection in favour of mobility and ease of production, reflecting the increasingly defensive posture of German forces.
Although never produced in large numbers, the RSO Pak 40 combination remains a clear example of late war German improvisation, making it a compelling subject for dioramas depicting the Eastern Front.
