History
The Aichi D3A, designated Type 99 by the Imperial Japanese Navy, entered service in the late 1930s. It became the primary carrier-based dive bomber of the Japanese fleet during the early years of the Second World War.
On 7 December 1941, Type 99 dive bombers launched from Japanese aircraft carriers participated in the attack on Pearl Harbour, targeting American warships and airfields. The aircraft continued to serve in numerous Pacific engagements, where its accuracy in dive bombing made it a formidable weapon in the early stages of the war.
