Rye Field Models Plastic Model Kit
JS-2 Model 1944 (1/35)
This 1/35 scale JS-2 Model 1944 from Rye Field Models represents the improved late war version of the Soviet heavy tank that played a major role in the final stages of the Second World War. The kit captures the distinctive appearance of the 1944 pattern vehicle, including the revised hull front and the large turret that housed the powerful 122mm gun. The model provides crisp surface detail across the hull and turret, accurately reflecting the rugged construction of the real vehicle.
Rye Field Models has equipped the kit with a range of advanced components designed to enhance realism during the build. The suspension and tracks are fully workable, allowing the finished model to sit naturally on uneven surfaces. Photo etched parts and 3D printed components add further refinement, while the overall engineering provides an engaging project for modellers interested in Soviet WWII armour subjects.

History:
The JS-2, named after Soviet leader Joseph Stalin, was developed as a heavy breakthrough tank to counter heavily armoured German vehicles such as the Tiger and Panther. Entering service in 1944, the JS-2 featured a powerful 122mm D-25T gun capable of destroying enemy armour and fortified positions. Its thick armour and heavy firepower made it a key vehicle in Soviet offensive operations during the later stages of the war.
The 1944 model introduced an improved hull design with a sloped glacis plate, increasing protection and simplifying production. JS-2 tanks were widely used during the Soviet advances into Eastern Europe and during the final battles in Germany, including the Battle of Berlin. Although produced in relatively limited numbers compared to medium tanks like the T-34, the JS-2 became one of the most recognisable Soviet heavy tanks of WWII.
