The M50 Super Sherman was a modified version of the American M4A4 Sherman tank, upgraded by the Israeli Defence Forces to improve firepower and mobility. This Mk2 variant features the French CN 75-50 gun, a new powerplant, and enhanced suspension, offering superior battlefield performance in the mid-20th century conflicts.
History:
Following the founding of Israel in 1948, the newly established IDF relied heavily on surplus Allied armour from World War II. Among the most significant upgrades was the M50 Super Sherman, developed during the 1950s to counter modern threats in the region. Equipped with a powerful 75mm gun and a re-engineered drivetrain, the Mk2 version represented the pinnacle of the series’ evolution. These tanks saw extensive combat during the Six-Day War and Yom Kippur War, where their reliability, improved firepower, and tactical flexibility made them invaluable assets on the battlefield. Rye Field Models’ kit captures this evolution with precision and depth, offering modellers an authentic and rewarding build.
