Kitty Hawk Models Plastic Model Kit
Su-17 M3 / M4 (1/48)
The Su-17 M3 and M4 represent the mature ground-attack variants of the Sukhoi variable-geometry fighter-bomber family. Developed to deliver heavy ordnance at low level while retaining flexibility across a wide range of mission profiles, these aircraft were a mainstay of Soviet tactical aviation.
This 1/48 scale kit from Kitty Hawk Models captures the distinctive look of the Su-17 with its swing-wing configuration, robust fuselage and prominent intake layout. Fine recessed panel lines, a detailed cockpit and correctly proportioned external stores allow the modeller to portray either the M3 or M4 variant with confidence.

History
The Su-17 was developed from the earlier Su-7, introducing variable-sweep wings to improve take-off performance and low-speed handling while maintaining high-speed capability. Entering service in the early 1970s, the type quickly became one of the most important strike aircraft in Soviet service.
The M3 and later M4 variants introduced improved avionics, navigation systems and weapons compatibility, allowing the aircraft to perform more complex attack missions in all weather conditions. Su-17s saw extensive operational use during the Cold War, most notably in Afghanistan, where their durability and payload capacity were heavily relied upon. Exported widely under the Su-22 designation, the aircraft served with numerous air forces and remained in frontline service well into the post-Soviet era.
