History
The Chieftain entered service in the 1960s as the United Kingdom’s next-generation main battle tank, built around a powerful 120mm rifled gun. At the time of its introduction, it was widely regarded as one of the most heavily armed and well-protected tanks in the world.
The Mk 10 variant incorporated upgrades including additional armour enhancements and improved defensive capabilities, reflecting evolving battlefield requirements during the later stages of the Cold War. Its long service life saw it deployed across Europe and exported to several other nations.
Though eventually replaced by more modern designs, the Chieftain remains an important milestone in British armoured development. For modellers, it offers a distinctive silhouette and a strong Cold War presence on the shelf.
