Tamiya Plastic Model Kit
German Marder III (1/35) 35248
This 1/35 scale kit from Tamiya recreates the German Marder III Sd.Kfz.139, a stopgap tank destroyer developed in 1942 to counter Soviet armour such as the T-34. Built on the chassis of the Czech-designed Pz.Kpfw.38(t) light tank, it was fitted with a captured and improved Soviet 7.62cm Pak36(r) anti-tank gun capable of penetrating up to 122mm of armour. The turret was removed, a steel mounting plate installed, and the fighting compartment enclosed with thin armour for protection.
The Marder III’s tall profile was a result of adapting the large gun to the small chassis, but it offered excellent firepower until newer German tanks entered service. This kit captures every detail of the vehicle, from the slanted armour plates and leaf-spring suspension to the full interior of the fighting compartment. The protective armour and sighting equipment move in unison with the gun’s elevation, and crew seating can be posed in either combat or travel position.
- Overall length: 174mm.
- Includes two crew figures in realistic poses.
- Five marking options for different battlefield units.
- Fully detailed ammunition racks, gun supports, and interior fittings.
- Accurately modelled Pak36(r) gun with functional elevation and traverse.
The Marder III stands as a testament to German ingenuity in adapting existing equipment to meet urgent battlefield needs, making it a compelling subject for WWII armour enthusiasts and diorama builders.
