Trumpeter Plastic Model Kit
British Army Challenger 1 Mk 3 (1/35)
This 1/35 scale Challenger 1 Mk 3 from Trumpeter offers a highly detailed build of Britain’s late-Cold War and Gulf War era main battle tank. The kit is built around a substantial parts count, with more than 630 components spread across 14 sprues, plus separate upper and lower hull sections. Individual track links are included for an authentic sag and profile, and the addition of photo-etch parts helps refine the smaller exterior fittings.
The turret captures the angular armour layout and the L11 120 mm gun with its thermal sleeve, while the hull features clean moulding, well-defined panels and detailed stowage bins. The engineering allows for a solid, confident build, with enough small parts to satisfy modellers who enjoy adding fine detail without overwhelming the overall assembly. The finished model measures roughly 335.8 mm in length and 104 mm in width, giving it an imposing footprint on the shelf or in a diorama.

History
The Challenger 1 Mk 3 represents the most advanced configuration of the British Army’s first-generation Challenger family. Building on the original design of the early 1980s, the Mk 3 update introduced improved armour, upgraded fire-control systems and refinements developed from operational feedback. The variant saw significant use during the Gulf War in 1991, where the Challenger 1 earned a strong reputation for accuracy, resilience and long-range engagement capability.
Although later replaced by the Challenger 2, the Mk 3 remains a defining milestone in British armoured development, bridging the gap between late-Cold War design principles and the requirements of modern battlefield operations.
