History:
The North American B-25 Mitchell was one of the most versatile medium bombers of World War II. The B-25B gained lasting fame for its role in the Doolittle Raid of April 1942, when 16 aircraft under the command of Lt. Col. James Doolittle launched from the aircraft carrier USS Hornet to strike the Japanese homeland. The daring attack provided a significant morale boost to the United States in the early months of the Pacific War. Though the raid caused limited physical damage, it demonstrated that Japan was vulnerable to American air power and marked the beginning of long-range strategic operations in the Pacific theatre.
