History:
The Panzerjager I was introduced in 1940 as a response to the German Army’s need for more effective anti-tank capability. Built by mounting captured Czech 4.7cm anti-tank guns onto surplus Panzer I chassis, it became the Wehrmacht’s first dedicated tank destroyer. These vehicles served in the early campaigns of World War II, including France, North Africa, and the Eastern Front, but their limited armour and firepower quickly became obsolete as Allied tanks grew stronger. Dragon’s kit imagines an upgraded version fitted with the later 7.5cm StuK 40 L/48 gun, a weapon used on the StuG III and Panzer IV. While this variant was never fielded historically, it represents a fascinating “what-if” scenario, showcasing how the lightweight Panzer I chassis might have been adapted to extend its service life against increasingly powerful enemy armour.
