History
The Grumman F9F Panther entered service in the late 1940s and quickly became the US Navy’s primary jet fighter during the early years of the Cold War. Designed for carrier operations, it featured straight wings and a sturdy airframe capable of handling rough deck landings.
The F9F-2 variant saw extensive combat during the Korean War, flying ground-attack missions as well as air patrols. Panthers were among the first naval jets to engage in air-to-air combat and proved highly effective against both aerial and ground targets. The type helped establish jet aviation within naval forces and laid the groundwork for later Grumman fighters.
