Manned Research Submersible Shinkai 6500 (1/72) 52129
This 1/72 scale Shinkai 6500 research submersible from Hasegawa recreates one of the most advanced deep sea exploration vehicles ever built. Operated by the Japan Agency for Marine Earth Science and Technology, the Shinkai 6500 was designed to explore the deepest parts of the ocean and conduct scientific research at extreme depths.
The submersible was completed in 1989 and is capable of reaching depths of up to 6,500 metres below sea level. It has been used in numerous scientific missions to study marine life, underwater geology and hydrothermal vents across the world’s oceans.

History
The Shinkai 6500 was completed in November 1989 and became one of the world’s deepest diving manned research submersibles. Built for scientific exploration, it allows researchers to study deep sea environments that were previously unreachable.
Over the years the submersible has participated in many oceanographic expeditions, collecting samples, observing deep sea life and helping scientists understand the geology of the ocean floor. After refurbishment and upgrades completed in 2012, the Shinkai 6500 continues to support deep sea exploration and research missions.
