Kitty Hawk Models Plastic Model Kit
Sukhoi Su-22 M3 / M4 (1/48)
The Su-22 M3 and M4 are export versions of the Soviet Su-17 fighter-bomber, developed to provide allied nations with a capable and rugged tactical strike aircraft. Retaining the variable-sweep wing design and heavy payload capacity of the original, the Su-22 became one of the most widely operated swing-wing combat aircraft outside the Soviet Union.
This 1/48 scale kit from Kitty Hawk Models captures the distinctive proportions of the Su-22, including its robust fuselage, prominent intake and variable-geometry wings. Fine recessed panel lines, a detailed cockpit and appropriate external stores allow the modeller to build either the M3 or M4 variant in a wide range of export markings.

History
The Su-22 was introduced as the export counterpart to the Su-17, offering similar performance and mission capability while being adapted to the requirements of foreign operators. Entering service during the 1970s, it was supplied to numerous Warsaw Pact and allied nations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
The M3 and M4 variants incorporated improved avionics, navigation systems and expanded weapons compatibility, enhancing their effectiveness in strike and close air support roles. Su-22s saw combat service in multiple regional conflicts, including the Middle East and Afghanistan, and remained in frontline use with several air forces long after the end of the Cold War. Their widespread adoption and long service life reflect a design focused on durability, simplicity and operational flexibility.
