History
The SSy45 flatcar was developed by Germany to transport heavy armoured vehicles, artillery, and equipment by rail, a vital logistical requirement during the Second World War. With a 50-ton load capacity, these wagons allowed armoured units to be rapidly redeployed over long distances while reducing wear on vehicles and conserving fuel.
The Sd.Kfz.135/1 mounted the 15 cm sFH 13 heavy field howitzer on a captured French Lorraine Schlepper chassis. This conversion provided German forces with a mobile artillery platform capable of delivering powerful indirect fire while keeping pace with advancing units. Used extensively on the Eastern Front and in Western Europe, these vehicles reflected Germany’s pragmatic approach to adapting captured equipment to meet wartime needs.
