History
The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk was one of the most widely used Allied fighters of World War II, serving in multiple theatres. The P-40N, the final production variant, featured weight reductions and improved performance over earlier models. During the Battle of Imphal in 1944, the Warhawk played a crucial role in defending Allied positions in northeast India against Japanese advances. It was flown by both the USAAF and Commonwealth forces, including the Royal Australian Air Force. Distinguished pilots such as 2nd Lt Philip Adair and Wg Cdr Geoff Atherton flew the type in these campaigns. Rugged, reliable, and versatile, the P-40N served as a mainstay fighter across Asia and the Pacific at a pivotal stage of the war.
