History
The K9 Thunder was originally developed in South Korea as a 155mm self-propelled howitzer to provide long-range fire support with high mobility and rapid deployment capability. Recognising its effectiveness, Finland acquired and modified the system for its own armed forces, designating it the K9FIN “Moukari.” Entering service in the late 2010s, the K9FIN has since become a core element of Finland’s artillery strength, capable of firing extended-range ammunition with high accuracy. Its advanced fire control systems, robust chassis, and proven reliability in harsh climates make it particularly well-suited to the demanding conditions of Northern Europe. The K9FIN exemplifies the integration of international technology with local defence needs, strengthening Finland’s defensive posture in modern conflicts.
