History
The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter was originally designed as a high speed interceptor, built around extreme performance rather than versatility. With its razor thin wings and powerful engine, it earned a reputation for speed, climb rate and demanding handling characteristics. The CF-104D was a two seat development used primarily for training, but it retained the unmistakable look and performance of the original design.
Decades after its military service, a small number of Starfighters found a second life in civilian hands. The American Starfighters aerobatic team operates former military F-104 aircraft, showcasing their speed and presence in carefully choreographed display routines. These aircraft stand as a rare example of Cold War jet technology continuing to fly in the modern era, not as weapons, but as airborne demonstrations of engineering ambition and raw performance.
