History
The Tornado IDS was developed as a multi-role strike aircraft by a tri-national consortium including the UK, Germany, and Italy. In German service, Marineflieger units employed the aircraft primarily in the maritime strike role, equipped to carry anti-ship missiles and other ordnance.
Its ability to fly at high speed at very low altitude made it particularly effective in penetrating defences. The Marineflieger Tornados served for decades as a key component of Germany’s naval aviation capability.
