History
The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II was one of the most successful and widely used jet fighters of the Cold War. Japan built its own version of the aircraft under licence, known as the F-4EJ, which served as a primary interceptor for the Japan Air Self Defense Force.
The upgraded F-4EJ Kai introduced improved avionics and modern radar systems, allowing the aircraft to remain operational well into the twenty first century. After decades of service, the Phantom fleet in Japan was gradually retired, with special markings applied to commemorate the final operational years of this iconic aircraft.
